Imposing sanctions on Russia is the main weapon of the West in response to the invasion of Ukraine. The question is where do they come from precisely and to whom are they directed to? What are their possible economic consequences? By drawing data from the OpenSanctions database, non-profit organization Correctiv has developed a useful tool in order to document and visualize the sanctions against Russia from 2014 until today.
As seen on the graphs, the largest number of sanctions imposed since February 22 till today comes from the USA, with a percentage of around 20%. Switzerland is next with 17%, followed by the UK with 15% of the total number of sanctions.
The data on the platform is regularly updated.
