The Power of Words: Media’s Responsibility in Mental Health Dialogue

iMEdD will participate in the 2nd Conference of the Child & Adolescent Mental Health Initiative (CAMHI) with the panel “The Power of Words: Media’s Responsibility in Mental Health Dialogue”, exploring the critical role of the media in shaping public perceptions of mental health and the responsibility of journalists in fostering informed and compassionate dialogue.

The session, moderated by Anna Kynthia Bousdoukou (iMEdD Co-founder and Managing Director, SNF Dialogues Executive Director, and journalist), will take place on Thursday, February 27, 2025, from 11:30-12:10 at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre (SNFCC).

The panel will include journalist Valia Dimitrakopoulou, Irene Caselli, Senior Consultant at the Early Childhood Journalism Initiative of the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma, and Marina Economou-Lalioti, Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry at the School of Medicine of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. As experts in the field of journalism, trauma-informed reporting, and psychiatry, they will discuss ethical storytelling, the impact of language on stigma, and how media narratives influence personal experiences, policy and access to mental health.

The conference will focus on the progress and next steps of the Initiative in addressing critical mental health challenges faced by children and adolescents, and will open with a keynote panel discussion between the Co-President of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), Andreas Dracopoulos, the Founding President and Medical Director of the Child Mind Institute, Harold Koplewicz, and the Deputy Minister of Health, Marios Themistocleous. In this session, it will be discussed how CAMHI’s public-private partnership and network-driven approach is bringing together providers, educators and youth from across the country to strengthen access, quality and equity in care, whilst inspiring efforts on a global scale.
