Terms of Use – YOJO
This website, www.yojo.news, belongs to the non-profit civil company under the title “iMEdD – incubator for Media Education and Development” (hereinafter referred to as “iMEdD” or “Organization”).
iMEdD was founded in 2018 with an exclusive donation from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), and its mission is, inter alia, the interactive creation of conditions for the development and frementation of new ideas and best practices, aiming mainly to promote and enhance transparency, validity, and independence in journalism, with a primary focus on meritocracy and excellence. The Organization follows international standards and collaborates with the Greek and international academic community, other similar international organizations, as well as professionals from around the world.
1. The iMEdD initiative titled “YOJO”
Guided by its mission to enhance transparency, credibility, and independence in journalism, iMEdD is planning to establish a newsroom aimed at becoming a center for the production of news content and the transmission of news and investigations at national and international levels, involving and collaborating with young and trainee journalists from all over the world. This newsroom will be named “YOJO” (hereinafter referred to as “YOJO”).
The aforementioned newsroom will be an audiovisual facility, located at iMEdD.
For employment at iMEdD’s YOJO, interested parties can submit an application via https://www.imedd.org/yojo-application-form/, which will then be evaluated by iMEdD, in accordance with the relevant Participation Terms.
2. General Terms
2.1. The use of the website and the services provided by www.yojo.news by the visitor/user requires the unconditional acceptance of the following terms of use, which apply to all the content included on the website.
2.2. The visitor/user must carefully read these terms before using the services of the website. If they do not agree with these terms, they should refrain from using the services and content of the website.
2.3. The visitor/user is advised to regularly check the content of the terms of use for any changes, as continued use of the website will constitute evidence of acceptance of any changes.
2.4. Continued use of the website www.yojo.news constitutes evidence that the visitor/user has read, understood, and unconditionally accepted all the terms of use. If the user does not agree with the terms of use, they must refrain from using the website’s services and content.
2.5. iMEdD reserves the right to revise and update the terms of use at any time without prior notice.
2.6. Any use of the website for commercial or misleading purposes is prohibited. Any unlawful activity in the use of the website will result in the user being blocked from accessing its services.
3. Intellectual and Industrial Property Rights
3.1. All content on the website and its settings, except for expressly stated exceptions (such as third-party copyrights), including texts, graphics, images, photos, data, designs, videos, sounds, etc. (hereinafter “Content”), constitutes an original intellectual creation and is protected by the relevant provisions of Greek law, European law and international conventions as intellectual property of iMEdD. iMEdD retains all intellectual property rights regarding the Content and any copies created based on it, subject to the provisions of paragraph 2.3 below.
3.2. The Content of the website is made available to users for personal use. The Content may be subject to changes without prior notice at the discretion of iMEdD. Following the acceptance of the terms of use, non-commercial use and reproduction, either in whole or in part, are permitted, provided that the reproduced material is made freely available through the internet or other suitable means and is accompanied by a clear and distinct reference to the original source. Any reproduction, distribution, modification, or use of the website’s content for commercial purposes is prohibited without the prior written consent of iMEdD.
3.3. The above provisions do not apply to articles, applications, data, multimedia, tools, or any other content of the website that carries a special license for use under a Creative Commons license. iMEdD may use any type of Creative Commons license it desires. Users should consult the relevant website for the specific terms of each type of Creative Commons license. iMEdD may at any time change the type of Creative Commons license it provides for any part of the website’s Content or cease providing such a license. In the latter case, the provisions of the previous paragraphs will apply.
4. Links to Other Websites
4.1. Through www.yojo.news, users can access third-party websites via appropriate links. These links are provided solely for the convenience of the users of the website, and their inclusion does not imply endorsement or acceptance of the content of these third-party websites by iMEdD. iMEdD is not responsible for the content of these websites or for the privacy practices or accuracy of the information included in them.
4.2. iMEdD is not responsible for the content and privacy policies of other websites linked through the website. Therefore, in case of any issues during the visit/use of such websites, the user should contact the respective website directly, which bears full responsibility for providing its services.
5. Newsletters
5.1. By subscribing to the mailing list, the visitor/user consents and accepts receiving newsletters and other informational material related to the activities of the Organization and the content of YOJO.
5.2. Upon subscribing to iMEdD’s mailing lists, the visitor/user may explicitly agree to also be added to the relevant mailing lists of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), the founding donor of iMEdD. After completing the subscription, the user’s personal data will be processed both by iMEdD, in accordance with the terms outlined on this website, and by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), according to the terms outlined on its website: https://www.snf.org/.
5.3. The recipient of the newsletters may unsubscribe by notifying iMEdD or SNF via email. iMEdD and SNF may remove any recipient without providing any reason.
5.4. The content of the newsletters and additional informational material that the visitor/user receives as a result of their subscription to iMEdD’s and SNF’s mailing lists constitutes their intellectual property and is thus protected by the relevant provisions of Greek law, international law, and international conventions.
6. Limitation of Liability
6.1. iMEdD makes every effort to ensure that the information contained on www.yojo.news is complete, accurate, up-to-date, and reliable, but it cannot guarantee the correctness, completeness, accuracy, or reliability of such information and is not liable for any direct or indirect damages to users/visitors of the website or third parties resulting from erroneous or inaccurate information.
6.2. iMEdD is not liable under any circumstances, including negligence, for any form of damage incurred by the user of the website’s pages, services, options, and content, which the user accesses voluntarily and with full knowledge and acceptance of these terms.
6.3. iMEdD is not responsible for any direct or indirect damages to users/visitors of the website due to illegal actions by third parties (e.g., hacking or decryption of passwords and data), the spread of viruses during use of the website, or issues that may arise when using the website’s content.
6.4. iMEdD makes every effort, but cannot guarantee, that the website, services, options, and content will be provided without interruption, errors will be corrected, or that responses to all questions posed will be provided. iMEdD also makes every effort but cannot guarantee that www.yojo.news or any related websites or servers through which the content is made available to users will be free of viruses or other harmful components.
7. Applicable Law and Other Terms
7.1. The above terms and conditions of use of the website, as well as any modifications or changes to them, are governed by national law, European law, and relevant international conventions.
7.2. If any provision of the above terms is found to be contrary to the applicable legal framework or becomes invalid, it will cease to apply automatically and will be removed from this agreement without affecting the validity of the remaining terms.
7.3. This document constitutes the entire agreement between iMEdD and the visitor/user of this website and is binding only upon them.
7.4. Any modification of these terms will not be considered part of this agreement unless it has been made in writing and incorporated into it.
7.5. It is expressly agreed that any disputes arising from the application of these terms and the general use of the website by the visitor/user, if not resolved amicably, will be governed by Greek law and will fall under the jurisdiction of the Athens courts.
