Terms of Participation in «YOJO»

iMEdD (“iMEdD – Incubator for Media Education and Development civil non – profit Partnership“) is a non-profit civil company established in 2018 with an exclusive donation from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. Its mission is, inter alia, the interactive creation of conditions for the development and fermentation of new ideas and best practices, aiming mainly to promote and reinforce transparency, validity and independence in journalism, focusing on meritocracy and excellence. 

In addition, its aim is to create a modern journalism nucleus and a strong community of independent dynamic media professionals within a welcoming space that promotes collaborations and the development of ideas and new initiatives, supported by the latest technology. 

The Organization adheres to international standards and collaborates with the Greek and international academic community, other relevant international organizations, and professionals from around the world. 

The “YOJO” Newsroom 

Guided by its mission to enhance transparency, credibility, and independence in journalism, iMEdD is planning the implementation of a newsroom with the aim of creating a center for the production of news content and the transmission of news and research at both national and international levels. This will involve the participation and collaboration of young journalists from around the world, and it will be named “as YOJO” (hereinafter referred to as the “Program”). 

The aforementioned newsroom will be an audiovisual facility located at iMEdD. 

1. General Framework for Participation 

A prerequisite for participation in the iMEdD’ s Program is the submission of a relevant application (hereinafter referred to as the “Application”), via the link https://www.imedd.org/yojo-application-form/, and the acceptance of the present Terms of Participation. 

Any natural person who is a citizen of Greece or a member state of the European Union, as well as a citizen of a non-European Union country (third country), over the age of 18, who is a recent graduate (within the last 18 months) or a final-year student at a university is eligible to participate in the Program. 

By completing and submitting the Application to iMEdD, the candidate expressly declares that they have been informed and they accept and consent to the following: 

1.1. Embraces the mission of iMEdD to enhance transparency, credibility and independence in journalism. 

1.2. They wish to participate in the newsroom, aiming to establish it as a center for the production of news content and the transmission of news and research at national and international levels, with the participation of young and trainee journalists from all over the world, under the name “YOJO.” 

2. Obligations of the Candidate Participant 

The candidate participant commits to iMEdD, among other things, to: 

2.1. Ensure that all details provided in the Application are accurate and truthful. In case of any changes to these details before the completion of processing and evaluation of the application, the candidate participant is obligated to promptly inform iMEdD in writing. 

2.2. Keep all information that comes to their knowledge, as well as the content of any discussions, meetings, or contacts with iMEdD during the processing and evaluation of the Application, confidential, unless explicitly agreed otherwise. 

2.3. Any work and/or materials submitted with the Application are products of their own intellectual creation. If there is any violation of third-party intellectual property rights by the candidate participant, they bear full responsibility, and iMEdD will be exempt from any liability. 

2.4. Upon a written request from iMEdD and based on mutual availability, they will participate in an online or, after a specific agreement, in-person meeting with the relevant personnel for an interview or discussion of the Application’s content. 

2.5. In case of selection, they understand that stages of negotiation and conclusion of an employment contract with iMEdD will follow. 

2.6. If selected and in case of acceptance of the employment position and permanent residence abroad, they understand that all necessary actions required by Greek law to legally enter and stay in Greece will be required, including obtaining a national entry visa, residence permit, tax registration number, registration with the Greek social security system and opening a bank account. 

3. Obligations of iMEdD 

iMEdD commits to the candidates submitting the Application to the Program as follows: 

3.1. To maintain strict confidentiality and privacy regarding all content (candidate’s details, ideas regarding the Program, information, etc.) in each Application. 

3.2. To use and process the information disclosed in the Application exclusively for the purpose of evaluating the Application. 

3.3. To share the content of the Application only with iMEdD’s personnel, partners or third parties under its control who are specifically authorized to process and evaluate the Application. 

3.4. To ensure that confidentiality and privacy obligations are upheld by third parties or contractors, with confidentiality agreements in place. 

3.5. To not exploit the content of the Application for personal or third-party financial gain. 

3.6. To safeguard the contents of the Application and any supporting documents in any form (e.g., paper, electronic files) under secure conditions. 

3.7. After the evaluation of each Application, iMEdD may retain the materials for archival purposes, provided this is allowed by law. If a candidate does not wish for their material to be retained, iMEdD is required to return or destroy the material upon written notification. 

3.8. In case of final acceptance and permanent residence abroad, iMEdD will undertake the necessary actions as required by law for the signing of an employment contract and for ensuring the legal entry and stay of the employee in Greece, including securing accommodation for the duration of the Program. 

4. Application Evaluation Process 

The Application, along with any supporting documents as required in the form, will be evaluated by specially authorized personnel from iMEdD (“Evaluation Committee”) at its discretion, taking into account, amongst other, the following indicative criteria: 

(i) The academic profile of the candidate, as well as their relevant practical or professional experience. 

(ii) The quality and diversity of the candidate’s submitted work samples. 

(iii) The content of any interviews with the candidate and their alignment with the Program’s mission. 

(iv) Recommendations from individuals who can verify the candidate’s work and/or experience. 

5. Personal Data 

5.1. iMEdD informs the candidate that certain personal data is collected and processed, which is necessary for processing and evaluating the Application. 

5.2. “Personal Data” refers to information about individuals that can identify the candidate, such as name, address, IP address, phone number, email address, etc. 

5.3. “Processing of Personal Data” refers to the collection, organization, storage, modification, retrieval, transmission and destruction of Personal Data. 

5.4. By submitting the Application, iMEdD collects various personal information for the purpose of communication, legal compliance, newsletter distribution and processing and evaluating the Application. 

5.5. The data may be shared with necessary iMEdD personnel or third parties for processing and evaluating the Application. 

5.6. iMEdD may process the candidate’s data to inform them about its activities, but only with the candidate’s explicit consent or if it is deemed necessary due to a legitimate interest. 

5.7. iMEdD will store personal data for as long as necessary to fulfill its contractual and legal obligations. 

5.8. Personal data will be deleted once it is no longer necessary for the purposes it was collected for. 

5.9. iMEdD is committed to safeguarding the candidate’s personal data using secure measures and policies. 

5.10. iMEdD does not collect sensitive personal data through the Program’s website. 

5.11. The candidate has rights to access, rectify, delete, object to the processing, and restrict the processing of their personal data. 

6. Specific Terms of Participation 

6.1. iMEdD reserves the right to unilaterally modify, in whole or in part, the content and terms of the Application for Participation at any time, with the applicant waiving any claims arising, directly or indirectly, from such modifications. Any modification will be available on this website (www.imedd.org) and on any specific website created for the Program and the applicants are responsible for monitoring any such modifications. 

6.2. Applications for Participation that are not complete, clear and definite will not be considered. 

6.3. If, during the examination of the Application, iMEdD considers that the current terms of participation, as they may have been modified, or the laws and good practices, or if the general principles of journalism or the relevant national and international ethical standards are violated, or if there is any conflict with the goals and operating principles of the organization, iMEdD reserves the right to reject or not review and evaluate the Application. 

6.4. iMEdD reserves the right not to respond, engage or offer a job at any stage, to the applicant. 

6.5. The applicant acknowledges and declares that no financial obligation or claim arises against iMEdD by submitting the Application and any accompanying documents. 

6.6. iMEdD is not liable and bears no responsibility for any damage or loss, direct or indirect, financial, moral, or otherwise, of the applicant, related directly or indirectly to the submission of the Application. 

6.7. In case any disagreement or dispute arises regarding the submission and processing of the Application, the parties will make every effort to resolve it through friendly and out-of-court consultation. If a friendly resolution is not possible, the Courts of Athens, Greece, are designated as the sole competent authority for resolving the dispute, and Greek law will be the only applicable law. 

6.8. Successful applicants will be notified via email and/or phone about their participation in the Program. The selected candidates will receive instructions for the next steps via the provided email. Applications that are not selected will not be commented on, and the candidates will not be informed about the reason for their rejection. 

7. Duration of Application for Participation 

The deadline for submitting applications is July 31st, 2025.
