Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN)

The Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN) serves as the international hub for the world’s investigative reporters. Its core mission is to support and strengthen investigative journalism around the world -with special focus on those from repressive regimes and marginalized communities. At the heart of GIJN is an international association of nonprofit journalism organizations.

  • iMEdD and GIJN offered a nine-week hybrid training program, culminating in a comprehensive guide on investigative tools.
  • GIJN was part of Media Village 2023 and 2024.
  • iMEdD supported 20 journalists from around the world to attend GIJC23 in Gothenburg.
  • In the framework of the Ukraine Observatory created by iMEdD in cooperation with international independent journalism organisations, GIJN has assembled a kind of starter toolkit to help journalists identify Russian assets, political interference and disinformation in their countries.
  • Experienced journalists from the GIJN team (David Kaplan, Pinar Dağ, Gabriela Manuli and Nikolia Apostolou) spoke at iMEdD International Journalism Forum 2022 about the central role that investigative journalists play in promoting accountability and transparency, how they bring to light the secrets of history and how, eventually, they act as a deterrent against the abuse of power.
