Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN)

BIRN is a network of non-governmental organisations promoting freedom of speech, human rights and democratic values in Southern and Eastern Europe. BIRN has local organisations in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Romania and Serbia, while the Network is editorially also present in Greece, Bulgaria, Croatia, Moldova, Montenegro, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia.

  • iMEdD in cooperation with international independent journalistic organisations, such as BIRN, has created an online observatory platform to document the developments and impact of the events surrounding the crisis in Ukraine. 
  • Denis Džidić, Executive Director of the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BIRN BiH), presented, in the framework of iMEdD’s International Journalism Week, a case study on war crimes and transitional justice experience from the Western Balkans. 
  • Nejra Mulaomerovic, Program Associate at the Balkan Transitional Justice Programme, held a flash session on “Conflict journalism and fact based narratives on the break up of Yugoslavia”, within the framework of presenting the Reporting House Museum during iMEdD’s International Journalism Week.
