This fall, the University of Delaware will host Anna-Kynthia Bousdoukou, Managing Director of iMEdD (Incubator for Media Education and Development) and Executive Director of SNF Dialogues, as a guest instructor for a timely and relevant seminar: “Topics in Public Policy: Media, Disinformation, and Democracy.” The seminar, part of the SNF Ithaca Initiative, will explore how media influences public discourse, transparency, and democratic participation in today’s complex information landscape.
Drawing on her extensive experience in journalism and media education, Bousdoukou will share insights into how media shapes democracy, while also addressing critical issues like disinformation. Her work at iMEdD and SNF Dialogues places her at the forefront of media’s evolving role in promoting transparency, fostering dialogue, and defending democratic values. Bousdoukou will be joined by Timothy Shaffer, Director of the SNF Ithaca Initiative, who brings additional expertise on civic engagement and public policy.
The seminar will provide students with a multidisciplinary exploration of the relationship between media and democracy, looking through the lenses of public policy, communication, political science, and sociology. Topics will include how media shapes information, public participation, and the essential role of media literacy in fostering an informed and active citizenry.
