iMEdD presents the photo exhibition “A Brief Guide to Investigating War Crimes,” curated by award-winning photojournalist and VII Foundation director, Ron Haviv and Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN).
The exhibition showcases powerful images from GIJN Reporter’s Guide to Investigating War Crimes, featuring contributions from VII photographers. Through a compelling visual narrative, it explores conflicts, war crimes, and their consequences, highlighting the crucial role of investigative journalism, human rights research, and legal documentation in uncovering the truth.
The exhibition will be hosted at Stereosis in Thessaloniki from March 7 to March 20, 2025.
The opening event will take place on Friday, March 7, at 20:00, with free admission.
As part of the exhibition, iMEdD’s training pillar, Ideas Zone, will organize two parallel events:
Workshop with Ron Haviv | “Investigating War Crimes: Documenting with Photo & Video”
Drawing from his experience covering over 25 conflicts, including his work in the Balkans used to convict war criminals at The Hague, Haviv will share insights into documenting war crimes, best practices for ethical reporting, and the role of visual evidence in legal accountability. Participants will gain practical skills and a deeper understanding of the responsibility that comes with capturing history through the lens.
Date and time of the event: Saturday 8 March 2025, 11:00-13:00 (Duration: 120′)
Free entrance (on a first-come, first-served basis due to limited seating)
Lecture by Ron Haviv | “Testimony 1989-2024”
A powerful retrospective of conflicts from Central America and the Balkans to the Arab Spring and Ukraine. Through short films and personal reflections, Haviv explores the role of the photographer, the impact of war, and the responsibility of bearing witness.
Day & time of the event: Sunday 9 March 2025, 11:00-13:00 (Duration: 120′)
