The third issue of “Desks in the Aegean”, the second for the current school year, was completed and printed. Students from 7 islands of the Aegean, both from primary school, as well as from junior high school and high school, have been systematically collaborating to co-create this publication. Students, teachers and parents will soon have the opportunity to hold the issue in their hands, but also to read it online here.
The issue is dedicated to the sea and the students from Agios Efstratios, Astypalea, Kastellorizo, Kasos, Lipsi, Nisyros and Fourni have enriched it with a variety of topics, such as stories about the research of maritime antiquities, the importance of the sea for their communities, or testimonies/interviews of people who live it first hand, such as an old sailor and a fisherman. The students, as the photos accompanying the issue reveal, did real reporting, or even travelled to investigate in the field, as was the case when the students from Nisyros visited a quarry for their story.
Not missing, of course, are topics on the season, the beauties of their islands, and even recipes or games that the young journalists suggest to their readers.
“Desks in the Aegean” is the first inter-island school newspaper brought to life in the framework of the civil non-profit-making organization Regeneration & Progress’ programme, “Sports Paths”, with the journalistic guidance and support of iMEdD’s team.
