The fifth issue of Desks in the Aegean marks another year of collaboration between iMEdD and Regeneration & Progress. This project empowers elementary and middle school students from Agios Efstratios, Fournoi, Lipsi, Nisyros, and Kasos to experience journalism firsthand through storytelling, research, and reporting.
This edition celebrates the myths and legends of the Aegean, offering a glimpse into its cultural heritage and timeless traditions through the lens of young storytellers. Highlights include New Year’s carols from Nisyros, myths from Agios Efstratios based on student-conducted interviews, a fairy tale from Kasos written in local dialect, tales of Anerades (spirits of the wind) from Fournoi, and the legendary pirate Stathis Manetas Romanos, who roamed the seas near Fournoi in the 17th century.
