General Questions 

  • What is YOJO? 
    YOJO (Young Journalists) is a digital-first newsroom dedicated to young journalists, combining an innovative news platform with a video-first approach to inform and engage global audiences. It is launched by iMEdD, a journalistic non-profit organization.
  • What makes YOJO different from traditional newsrooms? 
    YOJO is designed specifically for emerging journalists, focusing heavily on video content, immersive journalism, and mentorship from industry leaders. It is the first newsroom of its kind. 
  • Where is YOJO based? 
    YOJO is based in Athens, Greece, operating at iMEdD’s headquarters. It employs young journalists from across the globe and serves international audiences. 
  • What languages are used in YOJO’s content? 
    YOJO publishes content in both English and Greek. 

Eligibility & Application Process 

  • Who can apply to YOJO? 
    YOJO hires recent graduates (within the past 18 months – since October 2023) or final-year undergraduate or postgraduate students with expected graduation date within 2025, interested in journalism, media, or storytelling, who are proficient in English and passionate about innovative, video-first journalism. YOJO seeks talent from all over the world, maintaining a 60% local – 40% international balance.  
  • Do I need to speak Greek to be hired by YOJO?  Greek language skills are not required for YOJO reporters. There are positions available for both English-speaking candidates and Greek-speaking candidates. Good knowledge of the English language is essential.  
  • Are there specialization opportunities within YOJO? Yes. YOJO offers specialized tracks for those interested in areas such as international and crisis reporting, data journalism, investigative journalism, innovation and software development (by journalists for journalists) and immersive technologies.
  • Are there specific skills required? 
    While not mandatory, experience with video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere), digital tools, data journalism tools, coding languages or immersive technologies (e.g., AR, VR, XR) can strengthen your application. 
  • Do I need journalism experience to apply? 
    Prior newsroom experience is not mandatory. We value curiosity, commitment, and storytelling skills. 
  • Do I need to relocate to Athens? 
    Yes, YOJO reporters are expected to work on-site in Athens with the exception of field assignments. Relocation support will be available for eligible participants. 
  • How do I apply? 
    Complete the online application form, including uploading your CV, personal statement video, portfolio samples, and any required supporting materials. You can start, stop and save your application as many times as you want before submitting.  
  • When does the application process start?  Applications for YOJO reporters are accepted from March 29, 2025 through July 31, 2025. The first cohort is expected to start working in the newsroom in January 2026. 
  • When will I know if my application is successful?  Shortlisted applicants will receive email invitation to interviews. Successful candidates will receive an official offer email with onboarding details. All candidates will be notified via email. 

Training & Development 

  • What kind of training will YOJO reporters receive? 
    YOJO provides a specially designed induction program in collaboration with iMEdD’s global network, offering training in editorial standards, reporting, technical skills, and digital storytelling, supplemented by continuous mentorship, field assignments and practical newsroom experience. 
  • Are there opportunities for career growth after YOJO? 
    YOJO is designed to bridge academic training with the media industry, providing valuable, hands-on field and newsroom experience that builds a solid foundation for future career opportunities in journalism and media. 

Transparency & Independence 

  • Who owns YOJO? 
    YOJO is an initiative of iMEdD (incubator for Media Education and Development), a non-profit organization founded with the exclusive donation of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF). 
  • How does YOJO ensure editorial independence? 
    Editorial independence is central to YOJO’s mission. All journalistic decisions are taken within the newsroom, adhere to clear editorial guidelines, and will be overseen by an independent Editorial Board.
