Save the date: GIJC25 to take place in Kuala Lumpur, November 2025

The 14th Global Investigative Journalism Conference (GIJC25) will take place from November 20 to 24, 2025, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with a pre-conference day on November 20. Hosted by the Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN) and co-hosted by the independent news outlet Malaysiakini, this event marks the first time the conference is being held in Asia.

The deadline to submit your proposals is December 20, 2024, and if you are applying for a fellowship, make sure to do so by January 31, 2025.

GIJC25 will emphasize training sessions that focus on practical skills, with a strong commitment to including diverse voices from the Global South. The conference will also recognize the biennial Global Shining Light Award winners, honoring exceptional investigative journalism conducted under challenging circumstances.

Journalists are encouraged to visit the newly launched conference website, where they can learn more about the event, suggest panel ideas, apply for fellowships, register, and submit investigations for the Global Shining Light Award.

The conference will be held at the world-class Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, located in the heart of the city, near the iconic Petronas Twin Towers and KLCC Park. GIJC25 is expected to be the largest gathering of investigative journalists globally, featuring over 150 expert panels, workshops, and networking opportunities that cover essential tools and techniques for modern investigative journalism.

GIJN executive director Emilia Díaz-Struck expressed excitement for the event, stating, “In times of increasing press freedom threats, access to independent reporting that holds powers to account is essential for citizens around the world. GIJC25 will bring more networking between journalists from all regions, and sessions with practical, and advanced reporting techniques featuring the best from our global investigative journalism community. We can’t wait to see everyone in Kuala Lumpur!”
